Adi Hammond

I have worked alongside Tom at Excel Sports Clinic since June 2012. I have a first class honours degree in Sports Therapy from York St John University. I also hold qualifications in taping and strapping, kinesio taping and sports massage. Since graduating I have worked at the clinic whilst also lecturing part-time at York College for three years on BTEC Sport and Exercise Science and Level 3 Sports Massage for adult learners.

As well as this I worked for York City Football Club for five years; I started off as a part-time Sports Therapist covering all academy games and training for U8s-16s providing pitch-side first aid and diagnosis and treatment of injuries. I then progressed to a full time role, becoming U18s Head Sports Therapist; this allowed me to deal with players on a daily basis in a professional setting. After my U18 role I gained promotion to First team Fitness & Rehab Coach; this involved me running all strength and conditioning sessions for players, setting individual gym/diet plans for players and running fitness testing and pre-season conditioning with the professional athletes, whilst also rehabilitating players back from early stage injuries.

Having practiced Sports Therapy in both a professional football environment and in a private clinical setting allows me to work with a multitude of different people. This enables me to target both ends of the spectrum in terms of working with elite athletes who need conditioning for professional sport to those of the general public who need rehabilitation to be able to complete simple daily tasks. I have been exposed to a range of scenarios and approaches that have moulded my clinical and applied work.

My key interests and hobbies are football and running; I also like to play golf and I am keen to lower my handicap. Other interests include walking, cycling and playing badminton when I get the opportunity.
